St. Paul Student Council: Dogs’ Best Friends!

Last week, under the direction of Mr. Cody Bell, the St. Paul Student Council loaded up a van-full of pet food, pet toys, and other pet paraphernalia collected from St. Paul students and teachers and headed to the Pensacola Humane Society to deliver the goods. The idea for the project came from 5th grader, Bailey Burns. She submitted an essay to the Student Council suggesting that they conduct a drive benefitting our local Humane Society. Bailey also researched the Humane Society website, finding their list of needed items, and made it available to the school. Kudos to both Bailey and the Student Council for a job well done!
Penny War Proceeds Totaling $3,414.00 Benefit Local Charities
Congratulations, St. Paul! During Catholic Schools Week, your participation in the Penny War resulted in donations of $675.00 each for the following local charities: 1) Loaves and Fishes (the only Pensacola ministry that provides shelter for families; this ministry also gives food to those in need); 2) The Alpha Center (a crisis pregnancy center providing maternity clothes, baby & toddler clothes, baby food, formula and most of all, hope, to women in crisis pregnancies); 3) Manna Food Bank (providing food to those in need); 4) Mary’s Shelter (providing long-term housing for pregnant women and their children); and 5) St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic (a clinic serving low-income families that runs strictly off of donations). Thank you to Linda Miller for organizing this worthwhile drive year after year. Fifth Grade Reaches for the Stars at Starbase, NAS
Last week, Mrs. Patricia Griffin took the 5th grade class to Starbase at NAS where for one action-packed week, they were given real-world applications of math, science and technology. They learned the mechanics of flight, visited many of the base facilities, and got close-up views of the advanced technology used at NAS. They ended the week at the parade field, where the students shot off rockets made with their own hands! Thanks to Mrs. Griffin and NAS for providing an awesome learning opportunity for our children.
