No time to Pray?

I knelt to pray, but not for long, I had too much to do. Must hurry off and get to work, For bills would soon be due. And so I said a hurried prayer, Jumped, up from off my knees, My Christian duty now was done. My soul could be at ease. All through the day I had not time To speak a word of Christ to friends. They'd laugh at me I feared. No time, no time, too much to do. That was my constant cry. No time to give to those in need. At last 'twas time to die. And when before the Lord I came I stood with downcast eyes. Within his hands he held a book. It was the "Book of Life." God looked into his book and said Your name I cannot find. I once was going to write it down But never found the time.

Act of Contrition

My God I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy. Amen.
or
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven, and the pains of hell; but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life. Amen.
or
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin.
or
O my God, I am sorry for my sins because I have offended you. I know I should love you above all things. Help me to do penance, to do better, and to avoid anything that might lead me to sin. Amen.
or
Any spontaneous and heartfelt prayer that tells God that you are truly sorry for all your sins, that you will mend your ways, and that you firmly intend to avoid what leads to sin is a good Act of Contrition.

Prayer of Abandonment

Father, I abandon myself into Your hands; do with me what You will. Whatever You may do, I thank You; I am ready for all, I accept all. Let only Your will be done in me, and in all Your creatures I wish no more than this, O Lord. Into your hands I commend my soul; I offer it to You with all the love of my heart, for I love You, Lord, and so need to give myself, to surrender myself into Your hands, without reserve, and with boundless confidence, for You are my Father. Choosing the Right Attitudes

We want to realize, Lord, that having a good life together depends on our willingness to always choose the right attitudes.
We can choose to concentrate on the good things in our marriage or to be preoccupied with the bad.
We can choose to see only the faults in our loved ones or to be more aware of their virtues.
We can choose to react to situations in our relationship with kindness and generosity or with selfishness and resentment; with anger and revenge or with forgiveness and understanding.
We can choose to face life with a positive outlook and a good sense of humor or with a negative point of view and a chip on our shoulder.
Remind us, Lord, that we each possess the power to make our lives and our marriage as happy and enjoyable as we want to make them or as difficult and unpleasant as we desire.
A lot of it is up to us, isn't it, Lord? Help us to always make the right choices. Amen.

Christmas Prayer

Loving Father, Help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds, and worship of the wise men.
Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
May the Christmas morning make us happy to be your children, and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake. Amen. Robert Luis Stevenson

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
Response: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: O God, whose only begotten Son, by his life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech you, that meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. Come Holy Spirit; fill my heart with Your holy gifts. Let my weakness be penetrated with Your strength this very day that I may fulfill all the duties of my state conscientiously, that I may do what is right and just. Let my charity be such as to offend no one, and hurt no one's feelings; so generous as to pardon sincerely any wrong done to me. Assist me, O Holy Spirit, in all my trials of life, enlighten me in my ignorance, advise me in my doubts, strengthen me in my weakness, help me in all my needs, protect me in temptations and console me in afflictions, Graciously hear me, O Holy Spirit, and pour Your light into my heart, my soul, and my mind. Assist me to live a holy life and to grow in goodness and grace. Amen.

Prayer for Husbands and Wives

Lord, inspire those men and women who bear the titles Husband and Wife. Help them to look to You to themselves to one another to rediscover the fullness and mystery they once felt in their union. Let them be honest enough to ask: Where have we been together and where are we going? Let them be brave enough to question: How have we failed? Let each be foolhardy enough to say: For me, we come first. Help them, together to rexamine their commitment in the light of Your love willingly, openly, compassionately. Help them, together to believe how fragile, yet powerful how weak, yet how strong how impossible, yet attainable their love can be. Give Husband and Wife the courage to be for each other a person rather than a title. Amen.

A Prayer of Praise

Praise to You, Father for the innocent eyes of children for sunlight and flowers and snowfalls for the muscles of men who build houses and hospitals and harbors for the minds of scholars who unfold the truths of the universe for the hearts of parents who teach us to love. We praise You for what we have. We praise You, too, for those things that Your wise love has decided to withhold from us. What we are and have is from You. And our grateful response can only be to share these treasures with all Your children. And praise to You, too, Father for so many brothers and sisters. Amen.

Prayer for Priests

O Jesus, I pray for Your faithful and fervent priests; for Your unfaithful and tepid priests; for Your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for Your tempted priests; for Your lonely and desolate priests; for the souls of Your priests in purgatory. But above all I recommend to Your the priests dearest to me; the priest who baptized me; the priests who absolved me from my sins; the priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion; the priests who taught and instructed me; all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way. O Jesus, keep them close to Your heart, and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen

Litany of Humility

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.

From the desire of being esteemed,
Deliver me, Jesus.

From the desire of being loved...
From the desire of being extolled ...
From the desire of being honored ...
From the desire of being praised ...
From the desire of being preferred to others...
From the desire of being consulted ...
From the desire of being approved ...
From the fear of being humiliated ...
From the fear of being despised...
From the fear of suffering rebukes ...
From the fear of being calumniated ...
From the fear of being forgotten ...
From the fear of being ridiculed ...
From the fear of being wronged ...
From the fear of being suspected ...

That others may be loved more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be esteemed more than I ...
That, in the opinion of the world,
others may increase and I may decrease ...
That others may be chosen and I set aside ...
That others may be praised and I unnoticed ...
That others may be preferred to me in everything...
That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should…

Magnificat

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour; Because He has regarded the lowliness of His handmaid; for, behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed; Because He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name; And His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear Him. He has shown might with His arm, He has scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and has exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. He has given help to Israel, His servant, mindful of His mercy Even as He spoke to our fathers-to Abraham and to His children forever.

A Prayer of Parents for Their Children

Almighty God, You have called us to the holy state of Matrimony and have shared with us Your gift of creation. We thank You for making our love fruitful. May we be worthy representatives of You, dear Lord, in forming our children in Your knowledge and love. You have given us children, Almighty God, to teach in Your ways which will lead to their eternal home of heaven. May our children ever walk in the ways of Your commandments and live according to the teachings of Your holy Catholic Church. May our example, dear God, be such as to inspire our children to grow into the likeness of Your Son, Jesus Christ. May we be firm but kind in discipline. May we stand as one united in authority so as to be consistent. May we never confuse permissiveness with love. May we teach our children respect for Your authority in ourselves and in all Your representatives upon earth. May our home be as a Church, for You, Lord Jesus Christ, are present wherever two or three are gathered together in Your Name. May praises of God frequently rise from the lips and hearts of our family and may we all one day be united in our eternal home. Amen.

Prayer for Peace

God of Perfect Peace, I pray for peace in our troubled world, in our country, in the Church, in my family, and in my own life. In all that I say and do, may I truly be a genuine instrument of your compassion and peace. Even in the smallest ways, show me how to bring the healing power of your peace to those I touch this day. Teach me how to be a peacemaker in every circumstance of my life. By knowing your peace in my own heart, may I help bring it to the hearts
of others. Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Profession of Faith

This prayer is called "Creed" from the Latin word "credo", which is the first word of the Creed.
"Credo" means "I believe". This Creed is called the "Nicean Creed" after the Council of Nicea I (325), which produced the first portion. This Creed is also called the "Nicean-Constantinopolitan Creed" after the Council of Nicea I and the Council of Constantinople I, (381), which produced the second portion (We believe in the Holy Spirit. . . ).

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven:

All bow at the following words up to: and became man.

by the power of the Holy Spirit
he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in fulfillment of the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Saint Francis' Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
Where there is hatred, let me sow love:
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born
to eternal life.

Service Prayer

Lord Jesus, Help me help someone today. It doesn't have to be in any big way -small is just fine. I know I can't solve everyone's problems or change the painful circumstances of their lives. But I can offer a word of encouragement, a smile,a hug. I can promise a prayer, and then keep that promise. There are many forms of help I can give, if only I am attentive and aware, if only I notice needs and make some kind of loving response as best I can. Today, may I be a Simon of Cyrene, lifting a heavy burden from someone's life, even if only for a few moments. Use me. Send me. Show me, Lord Jesus, how to help someone today in your name. Amen

We Have a Problem We Can't Handle

O Lord, we have a problem that we just can't seem to handle.  We've tried so hard to decide what to do about it, but we just don't know how to cope with it.   Show us how to deal with this problem, Lord.  Help us solve it.  When you were on earth you promised to help and guide us in our daily lives.  You promised us your constant and loving care. We believe in your power, Lord, and in your desire to give us your aid. We know that if we ask for your help and have faith in it, you'll eventually show us how to handle our difficulties.  We know that if we wait patiently for your guidance you'll eventually give us the wisdom we need to resolve our problems.  So come to us, Lord, and join your helping hands with ours. Amen
